Even a picture perfect couple has their issues.
When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade - or if you're Beyoncé you create Lemonade the Visual Album. I'll admit I've been waiting for the follow up to Self-Titled, but I wasn't sure what direction the album would go sonically after hearing Formation, a song that I enjoy a lot. It's safe to say that Lemonade is Beyoncé's most honest album, and her most controversial era overall. Piers Morgan has gone as far as to say he hates when entertainers go all political. Now, well, never mind. That's a post for another day.
All over social media I've seen praise for the new album, but I've seen the critics too (ex. Azealia Banks). Some say that the album is boring, untrue, and many other conspiracies. I can't keep up. Listen, Solange didn't try to beat Jay Z's ass on that elevator for no reason. This album has some truth to it! How much do I actually believe? I don't know. What does it matter? I don't always seek the truth in my artist, but I do expect them to stay consistent and keep me entertained. For that reason, Lemonade is a job well done. But I suppose I'm biased. I'm a huge rap fan, and most rappers are liars, LOL.
Remember Usher's Confessions? Remember how everyone thought that every time Usher was in LA he was with his ex girlfriend? Nah. Confessions was Jermaine Dupri's story. You ain't know? Do your Googles. Anyway, this is how I feel about Lemonade. I obviously believe the album is personal to Beyoncé, except the story isn't exclusively HER story. I'm sure she pulls a lot from her mother and father's relationship.
This is Beyoncé's darkest album, and due to the subject matter, rightfully so. We may not be able to bust out any choreography to this album, but I'm also arguing that is exactly the point of it. Lemonade is meant to be enjoyed and digested - not sweated out, haha. This album is special.
Lemonade is projected to move 475-525k, 575-640k with streaming included. This will guarantee Gold status, with Platinum status I'm sure following shortly after. With such hype around the album, I was expecting more but those numbers are way more than people sell in a year.
Lemonade will be exclusively streaming on Tidal forever, but is available for purchase on iTunes. Sorry, Spotify.
