Who is George Zimmerman? George Michael Zimmerman, the Florida man infamously known as the man who shot and killed 17-year-old African American teen, Trayvon Martin. I'm aware that everyone knows the story, but here is a recap:
Martin was visiting his father's fiancée on the evening of February 26, 2012. Martin went to the store to purchase skittles and iced tea. On his return, he walked through a neighborhood that is said to have been victim to multiple robberies that year. Zimmerman, a member of the community watch, spotted him and called the police. Not much later, there was an altercation between the two individuals. This altercation resulted in the death of Trayvon Martin. George Zimmerman was charged and tried in Martin's death. A jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder and of manslaughter in July of 2013.
I was 18 and a freshman in college when this happened, and it changed my life forever. Not joking. Prior to the murder of Trayvon Martin, I never feared my safety walking through my OWN neighborhood. I never feared that wearing a hooded sweatshirt in combination with the color of my skin could result in my death, because of someone else's prejudice and insecurity. I was aware of the odds stacked against me being an African-American man, but not in this way. I once was coming home late one night, and as I got out of my car, I threw on my hood. The action was thoughtless. Just as quick as I put it on, I took it off. Fear. I did this out of fear.
Fast forward to 2016: "George Zimmerman To Auction Off Gun He Used To Kill Trayvon Martin"
The 9mm pistol listed for auction on Gunbroker.com, by user "GZ1776" with message: "The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012" He also includes that a portion of the proceeds will go towards fighting BLM's (Black Lives Mater) violence against officers, ensure the demise of Angela Corey's persecution career, and Hillary Clinton's anti firearm rhetoric.
Man, I'm tired. I'm tired of George Zimmerman in the news, and anyone who think he's justified in any of his actions. As someone who believes George Zimmerman should have been convicted of the murder of Trayvon Martin, I know someone who feels differently could agree that it's disgusting to auction off a murder weapon that resulted in the death of a teenager. George Zimmerman is a lowlife, who can't keep to himself.
The trial of George Zimmer was, of course, the trial of Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman knew nothing about Trayvon, but assumed his guilt based on his "threatening" exterior. Somehow the end result was guilty for his own demise. Trayvon Martin was put on trial for his own death! No black defendant would get away with this. Not now, not ever.
George Zimmerman, for the sake of everyone. Please, just leave us alone.
