If you know someone who questions Colin Kaepernick's protest, show them the video of the badge-toting thug Betty Shelby murdering the innocent Terence Crutcher while he was seeking assistance after his vehicle broke down. Terence Crutcher was attempting to return home after attending night school. He was unarmed, and multiple camera angles show him with his hands up. He did not pose as a threat to this officer, unless you consider dark skin a threat.
The sad reality is, Terence Crutcher did not deserve to be murdered. He did not deserve to be harassed or questioned. Terence Crutcher, while breaking no laws, complied with the police's demands. He had his hands up. He did not resist. There was nothing that he could have done to save his life from the monster that is Betty Shelby.
There isn't a doubt in my mind that this was a racially motivated murder. When a police officer describes a black man with car trouble as looking like a "big bad dude" - it's about race. This hits home for me, though. There are many people who might describe me in the exact same way, and I can only hope that the outcome is not the same if I'm ever stranded and need help.
This is why we don't trust the police. This is why we're scared. Black people are villainized, killed, and put on trial for our own deaths. Why is that? It has to stop. We're sick of it.
Rest In Peace Terence Crutcher!
I'd love nothing more to say that incidents like this are not about race, but that would be dishonest, when it continues to happen. Terence Crutcher could have been any of us. Betty Shelby is a murderer - and I can only pray that justice is served this time.
